ABOUT THE AWARD
Since it’s inception in 1996, the EPA Region 10 Evergreen Award has honored twenty-one business leaders who have demonstrated that preventing pollution is a sound business practice.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE?
Any business in Alaska, Idaho, Oregon and Washington that meets the criteria described below. EPA seeks to showcase businesses of all sizes and sectors of the economy that are committed to environmental excellence. Businesses with current enforcement actions are ineligible.
NOMINATION PROCESS
EPA will accept nominations from federal, state and local environmental agency personnel, business associations, businesses and environmental organizations. Self nominations are allowed. EPA will consider those businesses participating in voluntary pollution prevention programs like Performance Track, Energy Star and EnviroStars. Winners of other state or local environmental award programs will also be considered.

Help to Build an Environmentally Sustainable Economy in the Pacific Northwest
Many pollution prevention (P2) practices, such as substituting toxic material with safer alternatives, are simple and inexpensive and can improve a business's bottom line. P2 practices can help reduce or eliminate:
• raw material and energy costs
• treatment, disposal and associated labor costs
• wildlife and habitat damage
• property devaluation
• remediation costs
• civil and criminal fines
• permit fees
• insurance costs
• process disruption
• down time

Examples
- Work done with manufacturers, suppliers, customers, and disposers to minimize the environmental impacts associated with the product(s)
- Leadership in community environmental programs
- Leadership in environmental programs in their industry
- Participation in federal, state or local voluntary pollution prevention programs such as Climatewise, Wastewise or Envirostars.
