Development Document for Effluent Limitations Guidelines and New Source Performance Standards for the Bauxite Refining Subcategory of the Aluminum Segment of the Nonferrous Metals Manufacturing Point Source Category.
This document presents the findings of a study of the bauxite refining industry by the Environmental Protection Agency for the purpose of developing effluent limitation guidelines and standards of performance for the industry, to implement Sections 304, 306, and 307 of the Federal Water Pollution Control Act as amended. Effluent limitations guidelines contained herein for the bauxite refining industry set forth the degree of effluent reduction attainable through the application of the best practicable control technology currently available. The standards of performance for new sources contained herein set forth the degree of effluent reduction attainable through the application of the best available demonstrated control technology, processes, operating methods, or other alternatives.
