The new active ingredient (a.i.), orthosulfamuron, is a systemic herbicide belonging to the sulfamoylurea class of chemicals. This new active ingredient is being proposed for control of various weeds in rice. The mode of action for orthysulfamuron is through inhibition of the plant enzyme acetolactate synthase, which is also known as acetohydroxy acid synthase.
