Commercial Forestry Benefits of Alternative Emission Controls for the NOx SIP Call.
Elevated concentrations of ozone are believed to adversely affect the mortality, growth and leaf area of a variety of tree species found in the United States (e.g., Mann, et al. (1980) and Peterson and Arbaugh (1988)). Thus, a policy to reduce ozone concentrations may lead to an improvement in society's economic welfare because some of the adverse impacts in the forest sector are avoided. The purpose of this report is to provide estimates of possible forest sector benefits under several alternative ambient ozone improvement scenarios.
