Assessment Topic

The present and predicted nature, extent and control of air pollution related to aircraft operation in the U.S. were studied. The methodology for impact assessment, and the results of impact evaluation are discussed along with the technological feasibility controlling aircraft emissions, and emission control. It is concluded that (1) Aircraft emissions are significant contributors to pollution. (2) Airports exert localized impact on air quality. (3) Aircraft emissions and nonaircraft sources must be controlled at airports to comply with National Ambient Air Quality Standards. Techniques for controlling aircraft emissions are used.
