Characterization Of Off-Road Motorcycle Use, Draft Final Report.
On 12/7/00, EPA issued an ANPRM (65 FR 76797) for the control of emissions from recreational land-based engines, including those in off-road motorcycles. A primary issue for establishing emissions standards for off-road motorcycles is their use for competition. The CAA excludes from non-road engine regulations and programs engines and vehicles "used solely for competition."
To assist EPA's efforts to address these issues, ICF Consulting conducted a study of off-road motorcycle uses. The information in this report describes the inventory of off-road motorcycles, state off-road motorcycle registration programs, competition uses of off-road motorcycles, the extent of off-road competition activity, the marketing of off-road motorcycles-particularly competition models, the uses of competition models for recreational purposes, and features of competition models.
