Under the Clean Air Act (CAA), the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is required to develop and implement maximum achievable control technology (MACT) standards for source categories that emit any of the listed hazardous air pollutants (HAPs). Following implementation of the MACT standards, EPA is required to assess the human health and environmental risks that may remain as a result of the continued, routine emissions of HAPs.
