This Final Background Information Document summarizes the information and data considered by the Agency in developing the ground-water protection standards. The report presents a brief description of the Title II ground water standards and how it can be used to develop the Title I rulemaking. A description of the 24 designated uranium tailings sites and their current status in the Department of Energy remedial action program is included as well as a detailed analysis of the available data on the ground water in the vicinity of 14 of the 24 sites.
