This file contains only Chapter 3 of the document: Butadiene Production. Most synthetic chemicals (such as butadiene) are produced from petroleum-related feedstocks (mainly crude oil and natural gas). Since these feedstocks typically constitute about two-thirds of the cost of production of these chemicals (Research Triangle Institute, 1984), petroleum prices have a significant effect on market prices of synthetic organic chemicals.
